March 17, 2020
Dear Alta Vista Family,
As you know, the school will be closed beginning Monday, March 16th through Tuesday, April 14th or beyond due to our nation’s health concern. We will re-evaluate the current closure on April 13th Here are some helpful guidelines as we all walk through these next few weeks together.
How does this three-week closure impact the school calendar?
At the current time, there current time, there are no plans to modify the last day of school date, but that could change by State directive or Board action.
Will my child be provided with schoolwork during this time?
Yes, teachers will be prepping daily engagement work for all grades commencing on Tuesday March 24 until April 14, 2020 if we are not extended. The TK-8 grades will primarily be focused on work packets with the 2nd-8th grade having the ability to check out a chromebook if they have online services at home through a portal on the district website. Chromebook checkout contracts will be available at the school. The district will also offer a Social Distance Learning Center for small groups to use the chromebooks in the cafeteria. Teachers will also be working during this time and will be available to you through email Mondays through Friday unless there is a holiday.
When will we receive information from our teacher about the work?
AVESD staff will be working through Spring Break to prepare work for the next three weeks and we will distribute the work on Tuesday March 24, 2020. Teachers will monitor for the completeness of the work, and provide grades at the end of each week.
What if my child does not have a Chrome book?
Parents can check out a Chrome book and charger on Tuesday March 24th when they arrive to pick up work. Checking out a Chromebook will require a parent/guardian to sign a contract. If you have your own technology, you do not have to check a Chromebook out. During the three week closure, if you have an issue with your Chromebook or change your mind and want a Chromebook, please contact the school office and we will make arrangements.
What if I do not know my child’s passwords/login information?
You can contact your child’s teacher or the District office to get their login information.
How often will I be receiving communication from my student’s teacher about their work?
The teaching staff has been asked to communicate with their families a minimum of once per school week and to seek out students who are not completing their work. Please bear in mind that work must be completed and will affect student promotion if the assignments are not completed. If a need arises, you may personally reach out to our teachers through the email or by phone during working hours. The work will be submitted every Thursday and returned the following Thursday. Assignment progress will be posted weekly. The school office will continue to operate as normal.
